We had the good fortune of connecting with Shameka Powers and we’ve shared our conversation below. Hi Shameka, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation? My favorite quote is that “You always have a choice”. My mother said it often when I was growing up and i do believe it to be true! After becoming an adult, I was able to see that many people were really “stuck”. They could never seem to get out of certain situations. I am so glad that I know that I always have a choice. I will NEVER be stuck in a situation that I don’t want to be in because I have the option to correct anything that I don’t like. It is so powerful to me because it can be applied in so many instances. It can be applied in relationships, friendships, careers, hobbies, appearances, etc. You always have a choice! What should our readers know about your business? As my business was forming in my mind, it was so big that it scared me. I knew that it would become more than a thought but I never imagined how much I would actually grow as a person and entrepreneur. What sets KingMeekPublishings (KMP) apart from others is that I take away the confusion. In this line of work, people sometimes hang up from an hour long conversation with no answers and even more questions. I am so proud that I have been able to really serve people. Currently, I am so proud of the growth of my company. I started out by selling short stories and the growth of the company has simply blown my mind. I add new services almost monthly and I am excited about what’s to come! Stay tuned! I can’t say that it was easy getting started. It wasn’t hard but it was a lot. It still is but it is the work of my life so it feels really great. I overcame my challenges by pressing on. I couldn’t afford to give up or quit so whenever something unexpected happened, I had to find a solution and keep it moving. I use every “negative” thing as a teaching tool. I don’t get mad or discouraged, I just learn from it. The main lesson that I have learned is that things will come up. We can never predict what may happen but I can guarantee that something will happen. A positive mindset is really important in business! Another lesson that I am still learning is that we need to set boundaries. We need proper rest. It is okay to take a day off. Or a week. It is vital to take time off to reset and recharge, I want readers to know that KMP is for everyone! We have services for people of all ages and backgrounds! Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to? Atlanta is one of my favorite places! There is so much to do! I would take them to a vegan food festival for sure! Over the course of the week, we would visit Piedmont Park, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the Trap Museum, the Aquarium, etc. I’d have to take them down Memorial Drive and Candler Road so they could feel the vibes that I love. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? There are quite a few people that I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to but I cannot possibly name them all. I am deeply thankful for anyone that has shown my business love and support! I am especially thankful to my grandmothers, my parents, my siblings, and my children. They have supplied me with unconditional love and unwavering loyalty and I am beyond thankful Website: kingmeekpublishings.com Instagram: kingmeekpublishings Twitter: kingmeekpublishings Facebook: Shameka Powers
